Innovative Ultrasonics specializes in process development, engineering design, installation and equipment in the area of high-powered ultrasonics for new and existing industrial applications.

De-Emulsification

If high powered ultrasound is applied to an emulsion at low frequencies (< 30kHz), it can be used to split an emulsion into its component aqueous and oil phases. This is used in the petroleum industry to facilitate the processing of oil. The highly viscous material is first homogenised with water (using ultrasound) to reduce its viscosity, pumped to the earth's surface where it is split into its component aqueous and oil phases, using lower frequency ultrasound.
